Latinx Graduation is a culturally empowering celebration of graduating students that honors the many traditions that encompass Latinx identities. The ceremony is bilingual to be more inclusive of families and friends who may not be English dominant. There will be opportunities for students to reflect on their experiences and offer appreciation to the people who have helped guide and support them on their educational journeys.
This event also pays homage to the importance of family in the Latinx culture. Students walk across the stage alongside two family members or mentors that have impacted their educational journeys.
While this is a student-inspired event, La Casa Latina would play an important role in leveraging strategic partnerships with Alumni Relations, the Center for Latin American and Latinx Studies, and the Association of Latino Alumni to make it a cohesive and commemorative event. This will also provide a tangible way for our graduates to begin their Penn alumni experience. We hope to make this an annual event.
